Japan Explosives Society Academic Award 2023

Dr. Yuji Ogata

 Dr. Yuji Ogata graduated from the Department of Resource Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu University and joined the National Research Institute for Pollution and Resources, Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of International Trade and Industry. He received PhD in Engineering from Kyushu University.
 He subsequently served as a senior researcher in the Development Safety Engineering Research Group at the Geo-Resources and Environment Division of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, and subsequently as Deputy Director and Director of Research Institute of Science for Safety and Sustainability.
 He has consistently conducted research for blasting technology. His main research focuses on phenomena such as the dynamic fracture behavior of rocks, and the development of low-environmental-impact blasting technology using LCA method. The results of these research projects have been widely disseminated both domestically and internationally, primarily in the Journal of Japan Explosives Society.
 In terms of educational activities, he has mentored many students and led them to numerous research presentations and paper submissions, which have been presented at research conferences and in academic journals of Japan Explosives Society. He has also mentored many researchers and engineers currently active at Japan Explosives Society to obtain their doctorates. He has also contributed to the training of young researchers by giving lectures on explosives science at universities.
 He served as a director of Japan Explosives Society, contributing to the development of the Blasting Specialist Division, research presentation meeting and ISEM of Japan Explosives Society, and contributing to the management of the journal as vice-chair and chairman of the editorial committee. He also contributed the Japan-China-Korea Blasting Engineers Conference, contributing to the development of research exchanges with neighboring countries.
 These achievements by Yuji Ogata have contributed significantly to the development of Japan Explosives Society and the explosives industry. He contributed greatly to the improvement of safety blasting technology. He is worthy for receiving the Japan Explosives Society Academic Award.
