Explosions and detonations occur not only with solid materials but also with gaseous media. Much basic research has been conducted on gas detonation against the background of safety measures such as explosion prevention, but in recent years, industrial application research for engines and other applications have also been active.
Hydrogen is also attracting attention as a clean energy source that does not emit carbon dioxide. Compared to fossil fuels, hydrogen has the following characteristics: high combustion speed, wide explosion range, low minimum ignition energy, and easy leakage.
Based on these trends in the world, technical committee on gas detonation aims to address various problems related to the explosion and combustion of gases, as typified by gas detonation.
