Abstract

A pressure transducer which consists of a tungsten bar and a semiconductor strain gage was manufactured so as to measure the peak pressure of the underwater shock wave propagating in the slender metal pipe. The reliability of the pressure transducer on the peak pressure was examined through the comparison with the optical observation experiments and numerical calculations of the underwater shock wave due to underwater explosion of explosives. It has been found that the measured pressure values qualitatively have a good agreement with the results from the optical observation experiment and the numerical analysis. Furthermore, it is also known that the quantitative measurement on the shock pressure is possible if employing the transforming coefficient of 1.4 obtained from the experiment.
